cnn.com — For 11 years, Pedro Zapeta, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, lived his version of the American dream in Stuart, Florida: washing dishes and living frugally to bring money back to his home country. Then Customs, Immigration and the IRS stepped in...

Right and his employer broke the laws too. They should be penalized. If he had pay stubs from there as the article states, then they know the business he worked at. Throw the book at them.

... and if you read my comment you'll notice the government would have gotten far more from that entire deal than his 59k total. *yawn* Yet another idiot who can't read.

i speak english because i live in the united states, even though my family is from mexico (and came to the US LEGALLY i might add) But you can be damn sure if the US economy crashes and i decide to go to germany or some s**t to work and send money home, you can be damn sure im going to take the time to learn language and follow the laws of the country that is allowing me to provide for my family.

Take the money and kick his ass out of the country. Then put military sniper teams on the border to keep more of this type from getting in the country.

i dont feel sorry for him in the least. this is what happens when you come here illegally and ARE NOT a citizen. am i the only person who notices the word "ILLEGAL" in the term "illegal immigrant"? he derves nothing. he should feel happy as f**k that he kept any of it. damn.
kevinoOct 31, 2007
Notice how I said "papers'" which is different from me saying "citizenship application" or something along that line. There is such a thing as a work visa which allows you to work in America without being a citizen...asides from being an illegal alien.

Morons like you are retarded, and just because you here some commenter on digg say it doesn't mean it isn't true. There are numerous laws regarding income taxes and how they are mandatory....new flash hobo-jones, just because something isn't in the constitution doesn't mean it's not a law. Just because the only government class you've ever taken was some class in high-school and all you were able to cover was the constitution doesn't mean there aren't other facts out there.

Then don't come here in the first place. If someone isn't willing to follow our laws for entering the country why the hell should they be able to come here and use our services, let alone for free. Nobody held a gun to this guys head and told him to come here, how can you justify his doing illegal actions?

Go back home to Guatemala.

Read the article, morons! It says officials ruled out the possibility of it being drug money because "he produced check stubs of restaurants where he had worked"... So to all of you bitching and complaining about him not paying taxes... He DID pay taxes, as do MANY undocumented workers. The only difference is come April when everyone runs to file their income taxes, hoping to cash in on their returns, they do not get the money back to them that all of us get back. Those that have taxes taken from them all year get nothing back year-end. You see, they may not be allowed to qualify for medical insurance or many other benefits we get, but they do pay their share.

he admits right in the article as being an illegal immigrant. and yes, you have to claim your reasons for coming to the U.S... and If you are coming here for work, then you have to claim that, If you come as a tourist and make x amount in dollars working, you are breaking U.S. law. All countries have laws on immigration, and in the U.S. they are bad, I admit, and they do need to be changed, but that doesn't mean that it gives the right for people to go to the U.S. and just break whatever laws they want. and then claim that the U.S. is unfair for having those laws... Last time I checked there are many more countries in the world out there that are a LOT more strict on laws much more unfair than those laws in the U.S., and if you feel the need to be loud and speak in pointless circles, atleast speak out about attrocities out there like genocide, and If you are a citizen, then call your representative to change the law, if you aren't a citizen, try to become one and then call your representative to have the law changed, it works... look up some U.S. history.

its funny people mention not paying taxes but everyones freaking payroll stubs take about 10% of your income before you even see it. Everyone pays taxes, unless they are getting cash under the table.

i love the new block system. ill soon have a racist trash bin.

He spoke only Spanish, was an illegal alien, and didn't pay taxes. He got what he deserved. Its about time the U.S. cracked down on the millions of illegal aliens.
ts2007Feb 10, 2009
study harder...the word is taxes.
