why doesn't that make me feel any better? the russians have stockpiles of unconventional (bio, chem, nuclear etc) weapons to wipe out the earths population 1000s of times over. they don't need a direct hit, or even a hit at all. they can open the taps in their own back yard and there would be mutually assured annihilation.If there IS a WW3, there will be no survivors to talk of it afterwards. The whole idea of missile defense is just a placebo on a population scale, something that lets you sleep at night because you believe it will work.However I pity the poor naive simpleton nation of Poland for accepting these missiles. Russia doesn't believe that, but it makes great propaganda. They know that any ICBMs targeting the US will come via a polar orbit. They also know that they will have to redeploy their boomers which will cost big money. Add cruise missiles and nuclear bombers to the mix and this doesn't do anything against Russia's ability to conduct a first or even second strike. It does force Russia back into an arms race which is what caused the USSR to collapse. It also forces China to ramp up their military. China and Russia have always been paranoid about each other. My opinion is that they are positioned better than we are this time with their petroleum surplus. We need to be careful or we will crumble too.
