youtube.com — As the US presidential campaign enters its final weeks, both the Republican and Democratic candidates are hitting the swing states. But misconceptions and rumours abound and many voters have their facts about the candidates all wrong. Some believe that Democrat Barack Obama is a Muslim, for instance.

This campaign has certainly been an eye-opener on just how much hatred there still is in this country on so many issues. Racism, xenophobia, and just plain out and out hatred of liberal views.....such a shame!

Thank you for reinforcing the message that McCain/Palin supporters are ignorant xenophobes.

No, electing Obama will be that convincing argument.

You do know that Al Jeezera is a news network, not an ethnicity, or race, or nationality, right?

Aljazeera will cover anything (like all the terrorist beheadings in Iraq). This may or may not be a good thing...

If the small group of people happen to be the public face of the party, then yes, they *are* representing that large body. The leaders of the Republican party are at least tacitly accepting the viewpoints shown in the video, as they've been inflaming them in their campaign ads and rhetoric. If there is a silent majority of Republicans that don't believe this way, they'd better speak up and take their party back before it goes down.

Sadly, thoughtful well-written comments such as yours may be over the heads of these "real Americans." There will always be those who delude themselves into thinking they have actually evaluated a problem (such as whom to vote for) when in actuality they have merely worked to rationalize a pre-determined conclusion. Thus, they must seek rationalizations for the African-American candidate to be bad for the country. Plato disapproved of democracy as a form of government because he mistrusted the capacity of the majority to discern the issues and put the welfare of the state above their own interests. When I hear people like those in this video, I can't help but wonder if an oligarchy of some sort would be better. At least voters should have to have some exposure to truthful material about the candidates' backgrounds and views on the issues.
