Fine piece of jewellery? It was a raw diamond. You didn't think they come from earth straight to the shop.

I live in Africa and i have seen first hand what the De-beers of this world are capable of. Apart from South Africa and Namibia which are stable diamond producing countries, the rest are ever at it with each other. The Congo DRC, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Angola and Liberia have been experiencing some sort of unrest as far back as i can remember. You might argue that Liberia, Angola and Sierra Leone are now peaceful but one wonders for how long?Don't get me wrong, i am an eternal optimist but i have visited Sierra Leone and the DRC. The atrocities committed there are unbelievable.Ask yourself this; in the case of the DRC, how is it that a population that is surrounded by wealth can be killing each other right, left and center? Its not that they all want the Diamonds, i have met people who collect them from their farms as they digg (pun intended)!! I strongly believe that the powers that be don't want the locals to know what they have and so keep them poor. Why? It makes it easier (read cheaper) for them to exploit the Diamonds if no one knows much about them.Of course there are other related factors e.g power hungry leaders etc but the crux of the matter is that we all need to know more about Diamonds so we can de-mystify them.I am working on a site to do exactly that. http://www.diamond-rings-info.com/I will put up as much info as i can to give the consumer power when buying and the small Diamond trader knowledge so he can compete in an already unfair market.Am no Martin Luther but "Power to the People"!!As far as the SA Diamond is concerned, someone is going to be laughing all the way to the bank and it probably woun't be the guy who got it out of the ground.
