arstechnica.com — There's little doubt Vista is the most secure version of Windows, even as new vulnerabilities surface. When we talk about security in Windows we usually mean what Microsoft is doing?or not doing?to keep us safe. But it's also true that Microsoft intends to vigorously safeguard its own interests. That means Vista will also be the hardest to pirate.

WGA is really annoying. I'm a sys admin working in an office with about 300 windows machines (most of which are XP). Playing nice with WGA takes tons of extra time and effort and takes away from productivity. It seems like about every 3 updates they want to install some new version of their little WGA program and have you run it before you can install a "critical update." If they want to find some creative way to cut down on piracy, fine, but what they have now is irritating as s**t.

I can tell you what this WILL result in.The next time one of your employees decides to copy down your license (from the mandatory sticker on the case on the computer), and proceeds to go home and install it on his family PCs with his downloaded/copied Vista DVD, your legit key will cease to be legit. Which means your office's legit, working, Vista-PCs will cease to work.I'm an on-site I.T. technician for small to medium businesses. I fully expect to see this on the job. I hope I'm right too ... can we say, Billable hours? Thanks M$!EDIT: (And I Just got digg # 666 ... )

Microsoft really needs to work on their security issues.....trust me...Downloaded a .99 cent song from this "un-popular" site, got an amazing 259 total viruses. 143 trojans, 30 adware, 50 worms, 6 Malware. All removed by a combo of aVAST (free) and Registry Mechanic ($29.99 US i think). Completely crapped up my Harddrive though, so slow. Also (for some reason) made my graphics card lag up. now my son can't play FEAR or whatever demented game he plays that sucks up computer power.

I really wish that they spent as much time trying to fix their software as they did trying to keep people from stealing it. I have bought legal versions of every OS since windows 95 except ME and am really tired of this whole we have to protect their interests nonsense. I agree that they need to do something to keep people from stealing it but with the weakness in every single operating system that they have ever made. There seems to be more of a concentration on making $$$ an not enough on either fixing it or building a new one that actually works and is secure. I cannot in good faith put another dollar in Bill's pocket. There are enough open source alternative that I won't have to. After this next semester my house will be completely MS free. I have to support MS systems at work, so it won't completely disappear, but small steps. I do realize that no software is perfect, but with their budget, I think that they could do a little bit better.

Keep in mind that MS also like to spread FUD here and there without actually doing anything. Such as their claims about Linux. If it isn't apparent to people what scumbags Microsoft really are, with all their genuinely evil, destructive schemes over the years then there's no hope for mankind. But I don't think people are THAT dumb; even the dumbest of the dumb are starting to see what monopolists like Microsoft are really all about.

I had to restore XP on my computer to get rid of a virus. After restoring, Microsoft would no longer let me use there software. I had 4 computers with valid XP licenses and probably would have eventually bought Vista. I am not replacing XP with Ubuntu. I was thinking about an XBox. Not any longer. Bye-bye MS. You no longer have a viable monopoly -- the competition has grown up -- and I no longer have to put up with you treating me like droppings.
