marshallk.com — Following yesterday's PR debacle, a blogger who received one of Microsoft's free "gift" laptops says Microsoft has now emailed him and requested he "emphasize that this is a _review_ PC", sent to him to be reviewed, and should be sent back to Microsoft (or given away) when the 'review' is done. Has even Tony Hawk ever done a total 180 so quickly?

Enough already. Here is why they sent these laptops to some prominent mac bloggers:http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/12/14/bill-gates-on-the-future-of-drm/They had hoped to win some prominent blogging converts.Put that in your pipe and smoke it fanboys.

Wow he's like a 30 yr old crybaby. He's going places with his smug attitude and inability to be open-minded. I bet he has pictures of himself being all angry about it on his myspace page. Fairy.

Holy s**t! OBKenobi LIVES! And he comes back with the pathetic post for his return!OB...this is why you left in the first place. Making these juvenile $ posts is what made you the most hated man on Digg when you were basically shamed to leave.

Well put chroko. Note that I do write in that post though that I'm not super pleased with the performance of Macs, either. It's true that this post wasn't one of the shining moments in my writing life :) but it was all from the heart, damnit! I don't think it was bad enough to be called a douche canoe (by someone in comments here) but I have been laughing about that all afternoon. Points well taken, however, and my apologies for the juvenile tone on the post. And for being an assh**e, twice. Goodnight.

The lesson to learn: Don't deal with bitchy fags. You CANNOT win.

"to all windows fanboys, before you critisize our os x, please actually TRY IT FIRST. all of us mac users have used windows and we like mac better.you really cant critisize something if you havent used it. WE HAVE! if you have owned a mac longer than a day and you still hate it, than you can say that you hate it. but if you dont, you really cant"See the thing is, it's not usually Microsoft fanboys that critisize OS X it's Apple fanboys critizising Windows and Microsoft. And yeah I've used OS X and to tell you the truth I do like it, but, I like windows because it doesn't lock you into certain hardware and because most applications are made for Windows, though it is starting to get better with most software developers offering a Mac version of the app. But I don't hate it and I don't love it, but seriously people have to stop it with the fanboyism. Let people use what they want to use and leave it at that.

Who the hell is Daniel? And why do people have a problem with me pointing out that MSFT makes software, not hardware. If Acer had sent out a review unit with the stipulation that it be returned, there would be no problem whatsoever. This was not the case. It was a gift but now they are demanding it either be returned or given away? WTF is that all about? It is definitely backpedaling. They should just ask for them all back and be done with it or admit that they were "gifts" and let them do with them as they please.

Damn the User Agreement! You should of printed it out instead of the "blah blah first born child ..blah blah uh hu .. i agree" I can't believe there is still this split world of computing ... apple/Microsoft/Linux/BSD/etc when you go to a ATM you just get your money and go on... computers are the same. end of story and can we get on with it. just an opinion

Well, I own both a Mac (with OS X) and a Dell XPS (windows xp home) and I must say that I personally like my windows more for a few minor reasons, mainly because I am more used to it (and because it is at the desk I do my work on.) The only thing I really care about that is better on Macs is how many fewer problems you get such as viruses and errors, though Macs do get their share of problems.I'm not much for either company, so from a semi-impartial point of view, I think more people are just trying to attack Microsoft for already hating them. Who honestly cares if they gave out these laptops in hopes of getting a good review? It is business. Plain, simple business. The bloggers had every opportunity to review the laptops negatively (whether justly or unjustly) but instead, they waste time attacking Microsoft. So, Microsoft doesn't want to bad press at which point they request the laptops back. From a business standpoint, there weren't many better options. Now said bloggers who had such a big personal problem with Microsoft sending out the laptops have another huge problem with Microsoft asking for them back. That seems a bit rude, don't you think? As for what would happen is Apple did the same thing, I can't say for sure. From what I've seen in my many years using these infamous 'internets,' Apple might have received a less-harsh backlash for sending out the laptops in the first place and probably a good amount of praise, meaning they wouldn't have to recall them. You may dislike Microsoft for whatever reasons, you may hate their OS, or any other thing about them. You may hate Macs, their 'fanboys' or other inane things. Regardless, I think we can all agree that what Microsoft did was not a bad thing, it was a normal business practice, promoting their wares. Also, it seems that most people agree that the bloggers that whined about receiving a free sexy laptop with Vista installed before the commercial launch are incredibly dumb. If I received an incredibly valuable thing like that, I would in no way go out and attack the proverbial hand that fed them, and then attack again when they ask for it back. That's akin to the behavior of a spoiled teenager. If more people approached the subject in a mature manor, the non-existant controversy could have been avoided.
