appleinsider.com — After running through a series of ad campaigns designed to make Windows look cool, then victimized, then simply inescapably ubiquitous, Microsoft is now hoping to attack Apple in new ads that portray Macs as unaffordable compared to generic PCs. According to a report by the Associated Press, Microsoft hired Crispin Porter + Bogusky...

I should state that "I am a PC" and a graphic designer (for over 10 years). I grew up on both Mac and PC, I use Mac at the office and several PCs at home. I prefer a Zune over an iPod, but I prefer a iPhone over anything running Windows Mobile. I have had just as many crashes/handups/errors on both Mac and PC (though I have never had a virus on a Mac). I like Vista over XP and I also have a few computers running Windows7 which I prefer over Vista. I like both companies and what they each bring to the table. But I have to admit main reason I have PCs at home is because I can afford them. For years I have been able to make desktop PCs for about $600 (I am talking "tower" only) that will play current video games and run Adobe Creative Suite (so it does both work and play). Mac has always been just too expensive. Why would I spend $1,000+ when I can spend $600. Call me cheap if you'd like but I really don't see such a HUGE advantage in owning a Macintosh to justify the extra hundreds of dollars.

You argue facts and figures with intangibles and feelings. You call me a Linux fanboy yet denounce the obvious fact that you are a Mac fanboy.I use various distros of Linux; on my laptop, desktop and on the multitude of servers that I manage. I use it because of stability, security, updates and cost. That being said, I also use several WinXP and Vista desktops and laptops. Those OSes were specifically installed on those hardware platforms for the use of dedicated applications that require them. I use what's needed to get the job done and generate income; fandom plays no part in my decision making process. First you tried the Apple RAM argument then grey market Vista argument. It's blatantly obvious that you don't bother to do any amount of research to backup your stances, you throw it at the wall and see what sticks. I showed your RAM argument to be a blatant falsehood, and it's the same with your grey market comment. The retail version of the Vista Ultimate upgrade is indeed 184.49 at Newegg. If it's the full OEM version you are talking about, that's $179.99. I know, I know, you can't be bothered spending 15 seconds of your precious time to search Newegg; and besides, it invalidates your "tangible" arguments. The bottom line is that other than the OS and the chassis/case, Macbooks are made with the same commodity hardware from the same laptop computer manufacturers as all the rest. If the OS and the chassis/case fulfills your warm, fuzzy intangible needs and somehow that justifies the additional $1,444 you spend for it (in the case of the 17" Macbook versus the Dell 17" as shown in previous comments) then so be it. However, to insist that the $1,444 isn't an Apple Tax is a ridiculous lie.

There was a rumor going around that you could get the same Apple notebook she was looking at for $700.00 less. However you have to order it downgraded for ego 9.4 to ego 8.8.

Ohhhh, I sense some angry Apple fanboys. Did you get called out and bitch slapped by Microsoft of all people. Hell I can buy a PC for $700.00 and still have money left over for a blowjob form a mac user.
