engadget.com — We love a good non-mystery around here, and Microsoft's new Zunes are about as un-mysterious as they get. But we also love a good product refresh, and now that the cat's officially out of the bag we can really dig into the new Zunes, which definitely have a lot going for them. There's plenty to cover, so here's what you need to know.

I like the device itself, but the 1.0 model had a couple major deal-killers for me:- Can't also use it as a hard drive (being able to carry around a dozen ISOs and have a handy backup of important files is SO nice). Does anyone know if they've addressed this?? I didn't see it... - No video in the store- Let's face it, the 1.0 software *sucked*. I set one up for my sister, and it took damn near 3 hours to get it working, with a few scary moments, thrown in for good measure. Not cool. At all. Actually, that alone precluded me from buying one for myself. - The lack of podcast support in the 1.0 version was mind-boggling. About time.- No Mac support. Not that big of a deal, but really, if they want to hit Apple where they live, they need to go all out, raise the bar, and just do it. - And um, how 'bout some games?

The Zune is the biggest joke of the technology world. I'll hand it to Microsoft, they did dream up some awesome features, but the actual implementation of those features has never before been so incredibly awful. Good try. Better luck next time.

I think it's hilarious that all the zune bashers are now coming back and saying that it's actually not a bad piece of equipment. The funny thing is, 95% of them probably never actually used one, except for possibly playing with an in-store demo unit for 5 seconds.I'm truly excited about the new features and glad that MS has kept their promise to the first gen users by allowing us to get in on the new features via firmware update.

A card processing service? What the hell are you talking about? Its a warranty service for the iPod...You are still being picky over the smallest stupidest thing. You are not arguing against it being overpriced, or anything like that, you have a problem with me pre-ordering it?First off, we all buy things we may think are overpriced if we want them. The PS3? I know at least one person that bought it, but still thought it was too expensive, because they wanted it.Welcome to capitalism! It was not the price that made me cancel it, that was just a part of it. My problem, as I have said over and over, is what I learned later about its complete lack of obvious features. There, case closed, geez.

When it supports protected-WMA (plays-4-sure) from anywhere other than the Zune Marketplace, I'll bite. My wife listens to audiobooks through the library's download page, and since they are protected-WMA she can't use the iPod or the Zune (since in their infinite wisdom the Zune didn't play back any protected-WMA that was download from anywhere other than the Zune Marketplace...their own f**king codec and they don't support it...). Guess it's the Sansa for her for Christmas.http://dir.paramegsoft.com/http://game.paramegsoft.com
