washingtonpost.com— The new Zune digital-media player may be an all-Microsoft production, but it feels like it came from two companies.

@ blueblood > how is modding something down because you dont like it abuse.I agree. Vote however you want for whatever reason you want. That's what digg is. If people vote down Zune comments then that's the wisdom of the crowd. If they digg every damn story with ubuntu or ipod in the title, then that's what people want to see. If you want something else then vote for something else.
"For the record, I hate click wheels, even before the iPod. Some food for thought, perhaps."Independent thought is not tollerated on this Fanboy owned pro Apple site, thats why you got dugg down. You must never talk negatively of anything to do with Apple......
I think if I were in the market for a closed-system DRMed media player that let me buy stuff from a proprietary marketplace and managed all my synching for me, then I'd be torn between the Zune and the iPod. I think an iPod these days just screams "follower", and I have big respect for people who I see walking around with alternatives. On the other hand, since I want a player that will actually play my movies well, respects standard formats, is easy to control, and is not in bed with big DRM, then I buy Archos. I'm sure there're tons of similar alternatives (though none, to my knowledge, offering WiFi and touch screen).I think it comes down to what you want from your device. I record tv on my computer so I can watch it at the gym, and I listen to a lot of podcasts. I buy about 3 songs a year from iTunes and just convert them, and the rest is CDs. iPod would be a huge waste for me since the screen is dinky and it won't play the shows I record without transcoding. If you're into new, independent music and podcasts, then there are a ton of services that are better for you than iTunes, and consequently a ton of devices that make more sense. On the other hand, if you love a narrow segment of popular music, believe in paying 2 bucks for tv shows rather than recording them yourself, have good enough eyesight for the dinky screen, need your computer to manage all your syncing for you, and don't want people to think you're weird for having an unusual device, then iPod is definitely the right move.
"Hopefully MS or Sony will come out with something that will kill the IPOD soon enough. I hate MS just as much as the next guy, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and the digital music market needs some healthy competition"If for nothing else, the competition has already caused Apple to lower its prices $50.00. So I agree that the competition will only bring us better products at reasonable prices.
Yup, Wayjer is "definately" an idiot. LMFAO.Try thinking about the root of the word:finitefinitelydefinitely &definedefinedEven idiots can learn to spell, and it's never to late to get it right. Your very future may depend on it.
I love my iPod (especially when I am on the road) and I am not about to trade it in for a Zune! Based on everything that I have read about Zune, it simply isn't worth switching!Go iPod!!

Apple may not assemble their hardware but at least they design most of it(thinking of chipset on new Intel machines that they don't)
