When has 99% of the population EVER gone into a store, bought Windows off the shelf, and installed it on their computer?Most people think the OS comes built into their Apple/Dell/HP at the hardware level, like a firmware or something. It's why boxed retail copies of Windows never sell well. (And it's also why Linux will never be successful on the desktop.)

I think that it is fair to ascribe characteristics to a company that are more than the sum of their individual employees' parts. Like Walmart - I am sure not everyone who works for Walmart is a douchebag. But viewed on the whole, the company does a lot of douchey things.
