I'm really curious how MS will manage this merge, it's almost as if the Roman Empire is stretching it a bit too thin, sound like a terrible idea. I like Yahoo the way it is, here's hoping they'll decline.
How can there be monopolies on the web? Whether it's Google to Microsoft to Yahoo!, there will still be a ton of choices on the Web. If the big internet companies happen to have great features and bigger userbases, good for them. Obviously they're doing something right and what people want. That's how it works. Nobody's forced to use anything.
I really hope the merger goes this way:Best of Y! + Best of WinLive and MSN = 1 great cohesive web content/service providerSo that would be great if they're heading that way. I don't really care if one brand dies, or a whole new brand name comes up for that. Just as long as what they both do good at are still there.

Its good to get a bit of opinion on things, you dont always need to link directly to the boring press release straight from the company involved.

Not really. Yahoo! already have a customized version of IE7, so I can't imagine how much more this merger would spawn.
