I think the super-geek should just step down. He has lost touch with the customers and his own company. If you are going to delay Vista, might as well just delay it enough to add WinFS, EFI and other features that were dropped. I'd rather wait a long time and get everything than wait a shorter but also a long time and get some half-cooked turkey.
I was holding off buying a new PC so that it would include Vista but I got sick of waiting and bought a new core duo laptop with XP Media Center Edition. I dont really want Vista anymore (even for free), I dont want my new notebook to be ultra slow for the benefit of Aero.XP MCE works great, I have never had a virus or spyware in over 4 years..
constantine11, That's where Gartner does not have a point though. Because the delivery date you estimate would already be taking problems with the beta into account by a couple of months. If things go well with the beta, they will still release to business customers close to the earlier target date (the reason for the retail delay was that target date would have been too late to fulfill all their requirements for giving system builders enough time to package it in all their systems and have it on store shelves.) If things go badly with the beta, and production has to slip by a couple of weeks more while they work out bugs, that still puts them well ahead of November on having a RTM build (IMhO).@Refrag No, I'm sorry, as cool as Macs are (and the MacBook Pro in particular), they do not offer everything I need as well as a generic PC. And Vista looks to offer more functionality for what I need than XP. @thewise1 I would see the delay as a result of increasing the QA process. ).
A major revision would normally require changing the version number to 11.x. Your post shows that even Apple does not consider those revisions as major releases. each one of those offered major stability and feature upgrades.. the same can be said for the Windows releases.
