No ipod support - sounds like a suicide attempt for the MS hopefuls. Not to mention MS's clear lack of ability to design simple, powerful and non-bloated software.
I gotta agree with the last poster -- if you are not a 13 or 14 years old, then I really dont want to hear you talk about your love or lack-of-love for MTV -- or how they 'dont play music anymore' -- ur TOO OLD for MTV! it is not for you, gramps... I think MTV knows celebrities and musicians... they throw great parties and as I recall, iPOD and YahooMusic ads are all-over the MTV channel... I think having URGE as a cobranded product between a software giant and a music-media giant is not such a bad call...I hate iPods and the drones who buy into that crap-platform...Bring on something NEW -- anything New... for chrissakes... COMPETITION....CHOICE... yes!!At the end of the day, I am just bitter cause I miss free-music-Napster-days...
There is definately room for both in the market. It's not an iTunes killer as everyone is saying though. Competition is a good thing, it'lll benifit the buyer in the long run. However Apple is still miles ahead with podcasts and TV shows being offered at thier store. Oh and having support forthe iPod is a good thing too. There are no true iPod killers. I have used the nomads and Dells of the world and they're not even close right now. Yes I agree I am too old for MTV and the programming is patetic. If you're 14 you're probably not paying for alot of music either, so that marketing sceme seems weak to me.
"Urge compatible with every MP3 made except iPod.iTunes compatible with ONLY iPOD."And so then the majority of people will continue to use iTunes, as the VAST MAJORITY of mp3 players in use are iPods. Apple has most of the mp3 player/online music industry under it's control, and just happens to be doing a good job at it, and giving no reason for anybody to stop buying iPods and using iTunes. The idea that this new Microsoft service will be any different than the other iTunes competitors, or will actually compete with iTunes in any meaningful way, is a joke. It won't. And MTV being involved is nothing but the punchline. Nobody with any sense gives two s**ts about anything that MTV does anymore, and those that do are also the type who are far more interested in the trendiest things, which in this case happens to be the iPod. In both instances MTV brings nothing but a "lame" factor to the table.

And once again Microsoft demonstrates at how they 'innovate' at copying other's successful ideas. No digg.

The only way I can see something like this successful is if a company besides Apple actually makes a decent MP3 player
