Everyone wonders how MS can have such market share etc. when their products are so "horrible" I quote horrible, because in actuality their products aren't as bad as they are made out to be. I know that statement will make this entire post go down in flames, but it's the truth. Notice, I didn't say their business practices etc. are good, but the products or solutions offered compared to the existing competition aren't bad. Office for instance is without equal (right now), Server2003 is a very stable and strong enterprise platform, and WindowsXP is a very mature and stable desktop OS, but the reason MS is still on top, is because they constantly make sure their hands are in the cookie jar. Whatever new technology comes out, MS makes sure to be involved, at least from a marketing standpoint :) Is this good or bad, depends on your viewpoints and bias, but the fact does remain, that they constantly try to nudge into all areas of the tech sector.Nobody else does this. It's the one constant in the tech world. If a technology product category exists, MS will have a product, solution, or partner for it. This is why their market penetration is so high.A little OT I know, but that leads me to this article. Virtualization. MS is not the first to the game as usual. They are seeing that this is becoming a "big" thing though, so they have now thrown their weight into it, and one of the first things they do is "embrace" other virtualization solutions. It's just plain smart on their part. It's business.
"Linux has a desktop market share of what, .005%? No offense but Linux will never threaten Microsoft"This is about virtualization. Forget about the desktop because the server is where virtualization is really going to make a difference and Linux does have a large portion of the server market.
"Hey I know nothing about Linux but I want to setup a web server, could you spend some days to teach me? What book I should buy to learn about it?""2 steps, install Ubuntu or Debian and type 'apt-get install apache' in the console.""And?""Its done.""You should be kidding.""No."
