majornelson.com — Beginning on April 15th, 2010 Microsoft will be permanently discontinuing support for Xbox Live on the original Xbox; which will prevent any original Xbox console or original Xbox game from being able to access the Xbox Live service in order to make room for new features and experiences on the Xbox 360.

I'm sorry, so your XBOX can use non-MS servers for online play? The hardware is rigged to use only MS servers, if they shut it down, you're SOL. Conversely, if a PC game server is shut down, I can go find another server to play on. The exception to this is MMOs, for obvious reason.

i think what he meant was the original xboxs will still be running long after the last xbox 360 has died

I wrote on facebook, in jest: "Halo games; Kept on console because they know PC folk aren't stupid enough to buy them."My console "leet" friend (who thinks he's a jedi master or some s**t): "Or there's no market for games on pc anymore"It was at this point I was extremely happy Digg had provided me with this tidbit: "I guess that's why steam has grown over 205% in the last year and has over 25 million active users. +13 billion player minutes per month."He shut the f**k up after that hahaha

I own a Dreamcast so I know the pain of online play becoming unavailable.

people still play Halo 3?

Wow, though, that has really gone down in the past year or so. Even a year after Halo 3 came out there were still a solid 30,000+ unique users per day on Halo 2 Live...Great memories playing that game. It was the first online game I really played the hell out of, so even better, more fun games can never compare to the sense of nostalgia.

He means hack it for other purposes, like XBMC, since there is no risk anymore, only reward.

XBMC was more feature-rich though. Don't get me wrong, I love my WDTV, I just wish it had as much customization.

trdstv, I think he meant the console. Think before you post next time.Sadly, LAN is being excluded more and more now. ex. SC2.

Or run your own for a pittance. Ironically, probably less than you'd be paying for Xbox LIVE for the month.

This post confuses me in so many ways. How did it come to be? Who left it here? Why is it getting dugg up? Did I take too many pills again? Who's that weird woman tied up in the corner staring at me?...I have to return some video tapes.
