bluej.org — Microsoft is attempting to patent the "Object Test Bench", a feature implemented in Visual Studio which was inspired by the "Object Bench" which has been implemented in BlueJ for quite some time. BlueJ is an IDE designed specifically for introductory teaching.

So now I am curious... is there no way to stop the introduction of a patent before it is too late? Seriously! Shouldn't rightful authors be paid for their work? I mean, really what the PTO should be doing is Erasing the words "Microsoft Corporation" from the patent application and replacing them with "BlueJ". If you have prior art to a patent the US PTO after looking at it and reviewing it carefully should just hand the patent rights over.

I learned Java in my first year of my COSC degree using BlueJ. It's funny because I still prefer to use that over Microsoft's awful Java implementation, J# (in VS). Shame on MS for doing this, Christ its free software too!
