"Didnt they already confirm this a couple years ago? service pack codename longhorn? then service pack vista, now they are just calling it "service pack 3"? well hey, thats certainly a better than than "Vista""Dude, Longhorn and Vista are the code and commercial names of the new version of Windows. Not the service packs of XP. I never had any problems with SP2 either.PS: These names (although not the best ever) are way better than Panther or Lizard or whatever. Why can't companies just simply go with version numbers? I lost track after Windows 3.1 and Mac OS 9. What is it now? 10.0.4.2.1? 10.0.2.3.4?
Seems like with every Windows release MS puts out less and less service packs:Win NT4 - 6 sp'sWin 2K - 4 sp'sWin XP - 3 sp's (my money is on 4 not appearing...)Win Vista - Probably 2 since they'll want you to buy the WinFS release
The vast majority of supposed problems with SP2 are simply lies. By far the most problems arose from people who attempted to run Zone Alarm, often a grossly out of date version, at the same time as the firewall that is built into XP2.And there were also problems with the Symantec products. If you are familiar with Symantec, that is only to be expected.A full list of problem applications can be found herehttp://support.microsoft.com/?id=884130

And second not all of us have the same exact system as yours so we may and emphasis on may, have problems. I haven't had one yet but you've certainly got one with your ego.
I always "acquire" a new Windows Install that has been slipstreamed with the newest service pack and have never had any problems. It's good in a way because if there is a problem I know that it's on a hardware scale, not that I'm being a retard and f**king around with the system.Sometimes I wonder if all these Windows-bashers purposely try to screw up their computers so that they have something to yell at, it really isn't that hard to keep an error-free Windows experience, it's probably why I will never convert to Linux/Mac OS.
It's idiots who install the new service pack, and whine when their little programs don't work, I have no clue as to why you do it. I've installed so many pc's with the sp and never had a problem. Maybe its because we know how to maintain our pc's better.
One thing to realize, Apple's OS releases that have to paid for are NOT service pack releases. From Jaguar to Panther to Tiger, these were all upgrades to the operating system itself. Each OS upgrade had "point" updates (as I call them). That is what I would consider to be a Service Pack. When Tiger is first installed, it is version 10.4.1. Eventually, 10.4.2 gets released and so on with the rest of the point updates for that particular version fo the OS. When 10.5 comes out, I will consider that a major upgrade to the OS, not just a "service pack". When people say that the OS releases from Apple are people "paying for Service Packs" it is like saying anyone who bought Windows 98 after Windows 95 was buying a service pack. SP1, SP2 and SP3 for XP are about the same concept as 10.4.2 and 10.4.3 are for 10.4.
