MicroSoft is like a dead mighti oak treeIts huge from years of dominance, but it is dead. Its still big and impressive looking, but impressive like looking at a huge dead tree
The story about MS releasing a $3 bundle links to an article that notes the OS in that bundle is actually Windows XP Starter Edition. The article might have some validity, but the least the Inquirer could do is cite a source correctly. As for Vista, the whole story of its development and release makes me pretty damn sad. I got to play around with a few copies of it for the sake of evaluating its potential where I work, and after today all three installations--two desktops and a laptop, all powerfully specced and capable of Aero and Minesweeper 3D--will have reverted to their XP predecessors. It doesn't play well with our university's VPN, our AV software, our sound cards, or even Adobe Fireworks 8. Simply put, I just can't work effectively on it and I have my doubts that the rest of the department will be able to, either. Here's hoping that Fiji service pack will put all of this right and give Vista the kind of credibility and stability that the NT line is known for.
One of the big problems with Vista isn't that it's a terrible OS, it's that stubborn, thick-headed people go in with the pre-assumption that it's going to suck. I'm not about to say it's the best OS ever, but it's a lot better than XP. It's runs a lot faster, a lot more smoothly, and the little bells and whistles (like Aero, the start menu, etc.) enhance the user experience. I realize that some people have had a bad experience with some apps not working, or it running too slowly on their machines, but that doesn't mean the OS is terrible, and not even near ME. I'm running Vista on my same machine that I ran XP on for 3 years. I've never had a problem with it locking up, all the apps I've needed to run to run my website (photoshop, ftp, editors) as well as games have all ran without problems. If there was a problem, it wasn't something a patch couldn't fix.I have to wonder how much of these problems people complain about are actually Vista problems, opposed to the user.
I imagine it more as a Tyrannosaurus. At one time it ruled the Earth, but when the environment changed it became extinct, while those it once preyed on grew and flourished. That is what's happening now. MS has lost its ability to terrorize the industry and it's software does not sell well on merit alone. The shoddiness of MS's software, and it's predatorial business practices have become apparent to all.
The US mass media are hypocrites who try oh so very hard not to _sound_ opinionated, in order to claim that they do not bias or spin their stories, while all the time what they report is being carefully selected and sanitized to carry only the information they want you to know.As a result, anyone who is honest about the opinion is considered ignorant and unsophisticated. Thus the reaction to the tone of this story.I prefer the reporters bias to be in plain view, so I can judge for myself whether or not to believe them. Integrity includes reporting stories that the reporter doesn't like, especially if they do so while saying they don't like it.
I think Microsoft just want to imitate some OS Mac Features, like the Glossy things that you can see on it specially the real-time mini window tabs when you minimize your windows, you can see all of the windows that your browsing just hover down on your MENU DOCK (mac) but in the case of Vista.. hmnn... some of my friends tried it here at first yes im amazed cause the details are cool: desktop setting, tab setting (their flagging glossy like buttons) and entertainment stuffs like as it promise on their promotions..as i see some of its features slow downs your PC. welp SOME unneeded features.its almost there but.. umnn.. not at all..
You are prank in pocket of ms$t.ms$ is sucker for money its like the QUICKSAND.which sucks and sucks until until dead meat.check out linux they offer plenty of stuff, atleast if ur sick of linux then go buy xp pro it has less bugs but when did u realise vista is good.Damn plenty heard of vista, biggest worry is hardware.

Windows 95 was full 32 bit with 16 bit support. Windows ME followed on from that - only two generations later.
