microsoft.com— Microsoft has finally released a UB Messenger for Mac. New features include spell-check support, custom emoticons, and the ability to display what you're listening to in iTunes.

Finally! This made my day. I have been waiting for this for a long time. Adium is great and all, but if you only use MSN Messenger (Microsoft Messenger)... :)
There's like, nothing new. It's almost the same as messenger 5. I don't even think this deserves a new version number. Basically all they did was add the personal message support, universal binary it, and paste universal binary everywhere. I don't think it's worth even closing adium to test it.
I just got a Mac, and I've been using Adium. And...I don't like it. I think it's clunky and kind of ugly. I'll use it still if this MSN is about as good as the last one (awful).
Usually I would bash Microsoft's product like everyone else on Digg. But Adium has problems sending messages at times, where Microsoft Messenger always sends the messages. Now only if they would support folder sharing and other windows live features.
No question I'm sticking with Adium, I have it perfectly setup. It's already superior to Microsoft's own messenger but imagine with audio/video/p2p support. They'll be unstoppable.
Ok, I still can't log in... It says I'm logging in, and Adium tells me I logged in from another location, but MSN Messenger doesn't really get there (it simply reverts to the "click here to sign in" button).- Simon
You know what? There already is a MSN messenger replacement out that is even more capable than Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger. It's called Mercury. Full webcam and video conference support, custom emoticon and wink support, tabbed chat, multiple accounts logged in at once, everything. Everything is completely customizable, from the contact list to the chat window, alerts, and contact cards. Not only that, but it's available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and FreeBSD. And it's free. Check it out: http://mercury.to . I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned it yet.Microsoft Messenger for Mac is crap in comparison.Like someone said, Microsoft's reasons for not adding cam support to the Mac version are lame, if some unpaid third-party developers can manage to get webcam working with MSN messenger, why can't Microsoft?

Don't forget Microsoft crippled Windows Media Player for the Mac until they stopped making it.
