fsplanet.com— Looks like Microsoft is in for a big year. XBOX 360, Windows Vista, HD-DVD, Flight simulator. It's nice to see an american company doing well. I don't care what all you haters think... - flapbreaker

I bought X-Plane because of the whole "best physics engine" thing. And the fact that it's allegedly FAA certified and all of that. Personally, I think MSFS is way better. And understand, this is coming from a self admitting Microsoft "hater". I don't care for MS Windows. I've never ran Windows for a server, and haven't used it as a Desktop system in years. I love FreeBSD/OpenBSD and Linux. I'll probably never buy an X-Box as long as there is [any other alternative].But when it comes to Flight Simulators, Microsoft gets my vote, and my money. I *wanted* X-Plane to be better ... and "eye candy" aside, it's still not better in my humble opinion. I do like that X-Plane is multi-platform. But that's about the only thing I like about it.I'm not a pilot myself, but I've spent plenty of time in small planes. My dad was a pilot and owned a half dozen planes (not all at the same time.) And I've logged over 100 jumps out of perfectly good airplanes. So I know what small planes feel like. To me, MSFS feels more realistic. And as a bonus, it looks WAY better visually. Just my opinion.
"X-plane is by far the best flight sim out there."I assume you're talking about physics... But the thing is, there is more to a flight sim than just physics.Visual simulation, weather simulation, airplane and airplane system simulations, add-ons etc, all undisputably in favor to MSFS.What about the enourmous amount of freeware scenery from every corner of the world. There is more freeware for MSFS in general than anything like it for X-plane. And I dare you to find anything like Majestic Dash 7 or the CS Herc C-130 on X-plane. What about FSpassengers, ActiveSky, Flight Environment, FS2Crew, and a seemingless endless array of other high quality add-ons.And that the airplanes flight model simulation in MSFS is bad is a myth, there are plenty of excellent flight models in MSFS which come pretty close to the parametres of a real airplane. And as with from FS98 to FS2004 the physics will probably be further improved in FSX.
I personally want to see this open up into a MMOFS (Massively Multiplayer Online Flight Simulator). It would be so neat to have people take on different roles as Co-pilots and Flight control Tower Operators hell even mechanics. I know it would take a massive amount of bandwidth, but hell we do it with games like WOW, so just limit the amount of people per server or sumtin, RIGHT!!

The helicopter is one of the screenshots has "OSI" painted its side. I wonder if that stands for "Open Source Initiative?"<a class="user" href="http://www.fsplanet.com/images5/fsplanet_com_fsx_14.jpg">http://www.fsplanet.com/images5/fsplanet_com_fsx_14.jpg</a><a class="user" href="http://www.opensource.org/">http://www.opensource.org/</a>
