neowin.net— I had a call from Microsoft Legal this morning and they have told me that we are no longer allowed to endorse AutoPatcher on Neowin. Microsoft will only allow updates to be downloaded from its own servers.

But slipstreaming simply isn't very easy or accessible for the vast majority of users (thats NOT the folks here at digg). Most PC users will throw up their hands in horror as soon as they see the hoops they have to jump through to do any slipstreaming.
I'm just curious, how is Autopatcher different from slipstreaming? Shouldn't slipstreaming be illegal then too? I think Neowin buckled under MS's pressure a little too quickly, without even a peep. At least contact the EFF about it?
What about after SP3? One of the reasons I loved auto patcher was that I could also update my windows 2000 computer after a format and be safe and secure enough before going to the big bad malware infested internet. It's also a pain in the ass going through all the windows updates. Autopatcher allows a quick update process. It was really really painless. After SP3, there will be no more service packs for XP! similar to how sp4 is the last service pack for windows 2000, and windows 2000 still needs to be updated as constantly as XP.now that autopatcher is gone... where will i get the ease of having an up to date windows 2000 box before going to the internet after a fresh format? and after sp3 for xp, 3 years from now where will i get updates for my xp box before i hook my machine to the internet?

Funny (and pathetic as well, obviously) how people are digging my previous comment down for telling him a utility to FIX his broken Windows Update.Dial-a-fix is found at http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fixDial-a-fix support forum is found at http://lunarsoft.net/
