thinkprogress.org — Well, first thing, he used the word victim. And on another occasion I heard him use the word pitiable. And understand, nobody in this position wants pity. We don’t want pity. I could give a damn about Rush Limbaugh’s pity or anyone else’s pity. I’m not a victim. I’m someone who is in this situation. I think I’m in this situation along with millions

Embryonic stem cell research is done worldwide. It is myopic to think the U.S. is the only place it can be done. What does it matter if Europe or another country figures out the cure. Do you think they are going to keep it for themselves? See the map of embryonic stem cell countries: http://www.mbbnet.umn.edu/scmap.html.

The point that he was "acting" or didn't take his meds or took too much is irrelevant.

i don't think you understand the problem. it is- why, for religious reasons, should a country that could make major contributions to stem cell research... not. thats goofy. then when you add that these dolts- who usually want to hark back to what the founding fathers would want... are inflicting this luddite religion on all of us. thats really goofy. its pretty clear what they were worried about was a government sanctioned religion. thats what we got now. but then these are the same people that read the 2nd amendment-where it says..."A well-regulated militia." and think it means,"any american should have the right to own a tank if they can afford it." man am i grumpy tonight.

Sorry, a bit of a self follow-up.A) This was supposed to be in reply to an earlier comment ( http://digg.com/politics/Michael_J_Fox_I_Could_Give_a_Damn_About_Rush_Limbaugh_s_Pity#c3601826 ) but didn't attach properly, I guess. 8-(B) Doesn't a little bit more digging on the Ben Cardin vote, it appears Rush is playing less-than-factual. Cardin both voted for this bill ( http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h109-810 ) and voted to override the Presidential veto of it (which failed to get 2/3rds majority [it was at 55%] ), but voted against an alternate bill which supporters of H.R. 810 said would work against embryonic stem cell research. (I don't know the exact bill in question, but I believe it made concessions for other stem cell lines but was worded in such a way as to continue to hinder embryonic stem cell research.)

Fox as a celebrity is using this celebrity status gather some exposure for a disease to my mind that gets little support.I watched my father with the disease for 15 years. Fox's movement in the clips is "Parkinson's". I told my wife he had it almost a year before he released that he did. How? One scene in the show in which the muscles around his mouth held a certain way. It was obvious even without the classic shakes what he had. When filming spin city and other shows in the last few years, filming schedules had to being moved around to match his disease (so no he is not faking it). The movements you suggest as changed and faked - differ at certain times of the day and depend on how well the medication works (or not). You have good days and good times within those day. Eventually the medication stops working all together. You finally reach end stage and it kills you.So this young man in on a running clock. I see him as someone with a motive all right. A motive to attempt to find a cure for a disease that is killing him, before he dies. Most people including yourself would more than likely curl up in a ball at the prospect of what this disease would do to ones quality of life. For about 7 years my father had none. Ending with chronic muscle cramps, incontinence and paranoia/depression. A shadow of the man he once was. Death was a release from Parkinson's.So if someone has the balls to try and make a difference, any difference. He gets my vote. Not politically, but as a human being.I listened to the radio broadcast word for word and saw the webcam video of Rush mimicking and this was purely someone using another misfortune to build a little controversy. But it wasn't just fox he was insulting. He was making a mockery of very victim of this disease. Every family member effected by it. Every career that gives up their life to help those inflicted. Now the original radio broadcast was bad enough. But people bashing fox because he is fox WTF? You don't have to feel sympathy for a celebrity true. But my god, don't take the piss out of someone because they are sick. With stupid childish jokes about shaking, kicking or what ever else. One day this could be you or someone you love. How the hell would you feel.I have no idea of political agenda as I'm not American. But this was crap and cheap broadcasting. A personal attack that attack a large group of disabled people. The man should be removed from his job.You may not like his acting work, or anything he stands for. But I see him as a sick man trying to make a difference. I applaud his fight and his courage. I for one hope Fox and all the members within his foundation win their fight.....

As far as I can see, he wants to "stop people from blocking any potential cures," plain and simple. Is gene therapy being blocked? Since legislation (i.e. "politics") is not an issue in this case, it's more of a decision as to where to spend the foundation's grants. They see promise in gene therapy. They see promise (and have more accumulated research thus far) in embryonic stem cells (much more so than already-formed ones). They will keep pursuing whatever looks promising, and in the meanwhile they will attempt to highlight so called "moral legislation" that is over-harshly affecting promising research. For reference, I don't think MJF's foundation put ANY money aside for these kinds of things: the pols know Fox is extremely likable (and pitiable) and will draw sympathy, so they pay for him to speak his message. Parkinson's research (in no matter what form), meanwhile, benefits from the extra exposure. (Heck, he channeled the whole Limbaugh mess into more exposure and more understanding of Parkinson's than they likely would have gotten spending tens of millions on direct advertisement.)It's one of them "win-win" things.
