dailyfill.com— No doubt Michael Cera is good at what he does. And one great thread runs through all his films: Cera's making one hell of a living being perpetually confused.

The thing is, when actors like that try to break out of their typecasting, that film ends up being one that audiences don't respond to. It tends to be worse with comedic actors trying to go darker or more dramatic. See:Jim Carrey in The Cable GuyAdam Sandler in Punch-Drunk LoveWill Ferrell in Stranger Than FictionThe actor inevitably gets sucked back into their more profitable schtick almost immediately (Jim Carrey in Liar Liar, Adam Sandler in Anger Management, Will Ferrell in Blades of Glory) because 90% of moviegoing audiences are idiots who fear change (I worked in a video store around the time Punch-Drunk Love came out and I can't tell you how many people thought Mr. Deeds was better than PDL). Unfortunately, they outnumber those of us with taste.
I was referring to confronting a longtime best friend and having your first ever intimate experience with a girl. It was kind of touching. The best part of an otherwise raunchy movie.
He shouldn't be an actor because he's only good at one thing? So, if you have the best action star in the world, who couldn't be funny to save his soul, is he "not an actor" because he can't star in a comedy? He's good at that one character, so he gets jobs for that character. It sucks (for him) that he's not more diverse, but if a movie role calls for that character, I want him to play it, because he's brilliant at it.
