Nah, the whole point is to avoid having to merchandise or sell ads as much as possible.Also, the real point is to deter linkspammers. Besides the $5 entry fee, a user must make three in-thread comments and wait a week before posting to the front page. That combined with the no-self-linking rule helps assure much higher quality links and discussions. We mostly like it just the way it is because of it.
