xfm.net — Analysts at Merrill Lynch believe that the Xbox 360 will win the next console war, because of pricing. The report states: "The PS3 will not only be significantly more costly than Xbox 360 at launch, but will continue to operate at a cost disadvantage for several years..."

You know.. the problem with bashing analysts, is that you're bashing people who are doing their jobs. If a statement is put out, and people listen, its probably accurate and has its own due credit based on passed information as well as current market conditions. These are smart people, so before you call them stupid, remember, these people make a living off of telling you whats gonna happen, and if they really did suck that bad, they wouldn't have jobs now would they? I think everyone should just stop bashing the analysts, everyone is just so damn angry all the time.

That is a rather narrow view of things. If you look at more than the last five days of trading you'll see that it isn't so much a post-E3 drop, as there was a pre-E3 bump. The Sony stock is still up $10 from where it was six months ago.

Kind of fallible logic there because that equation does work out. Xbox 360, has a chance to top the PS3 this round of consoles but it doesn't mean that the Wii won't top the Xbox 360, though. It could go Wii > Xbox 360 > P$3..I mean PS3.

i don't think they ever intended to make money on the original xbox... and i'm not sure about the business plan with this one, but i know the price is lower than it "should" be (ie. why it's so much cheaper than PS3) - they're willing to take a loss to become a big contender in the business. they also make money from game-makers, ads, etc. so the money made on 360 purchases isn't be all end all of microsoft's investment in a gaming system

The PS3 and the Xbox2 are both what I would call. Adult gaming systems. They are build and will be paid for by the target demographic 18 to 34. Price is not where the battle lines will be fought it will be on what can you give the consumer.I have not bought a XBox2 yet. Why? there's no games I really want to play on it.All the games that think I would like to play were still in demo only form at E3.Final Fantasy is the killer app for the PS3 and it's the only reason why I'm hot to get my hands on that system. Everyone keeps going on that the 3do failed when it hit that $600.00 price point. That was a long time ago people make more money now. So in relative dollars that price is not a big deal. Ya, the single mom with 6 kids working at the box factor will not be buying this for Xmas. This system was not meant for them. Its aimed at the gen-xers that now have money to burn.
