livescience.com — "A new study finds that the lower the pitch of a man's voice, the more physically dominant other men think he is. And men lower their voice pitch when addressing a man they believe to be less dominant than themselves, but raise it when speaking to someone they think is more dominant."

"yet bill gates is the richest man in the world.""$$$ != dominance"No contradiction here. Bill Gates fortune, power and standing makes him socially dominant not physically. Exactly what this article was saying."Puts and his team think lower vocal pitch signals physical dominance more than it does social dominance, which in modern humans is typically achieved through skillful leadership and persuasion, not strength."

I hate the social sciences. What they call social sciences, most people call old wives tales. There's a reason they call them the soft sciences. If a physicist or a biochemist ever trotted out a paper so utterly laden with junk-science, they couldn't get a job at Devil's Armpit Junior college. If a sociologist or a psycologist does it, they give them a PHD.They could shave a dog's ass, teach it to walk backwards and call it research and still get a grant. The boards at the colleges and universities that fund this garbage need to explain themselves. What they call "science" is what most people call make work projects for losers with PHDs.

No other place is more Dog-Eat-Dog than the free-weight area at the gym. Sometimes you can even see the stacking order of dominance.
