cnn.com — This is a story about how Zimbabwe, once dubbed southern Africa's bread basket, has in six short years become a basket case. It is about a country that once exported surplus food now apparently falling apart, with many residents scrounging for rodents to survive.

Bush hasn't screwed up this country that much (if at all) He's done much more damage to Iraq.

@geronimoThe IMF's system of offering untenable loans with profitable terms to the ruling class, at the citizens' expense, guarantees that their poverty will continue on for years after the fact. Here's what Joseph Stiglitz, former chief economist of the World Bank, had to say about their methods:<a class="user" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/events/newsnight/1312942.stm">http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/events/newsnight/1312942.stm</a>As for their inflation, it is more a result of corrupt economic policy than of the farming industry's influence on prices. When the money supply is expanded without restraint by a central bank, hyperinflation occurs. What transpired in Zimbabwe is a good example of that.

@thatrez: I'm impressed: You got that nearly completely wrong from start to finish. How about checking those links I provided above? You may find they give a slightly different view of Mugabe and his policies than the _government controlled_ press of Zimbabwe does.

Speaking of Pol Pot - I read an article recently that said that younger Cambodians simply do not believe that the killing fields ever existed. They think the survivors are exaggerating.

I believe Bush and Lincoln are more alike."Accused of changing the rationale for 'his' war, and hounded for mismanaging it. Derided as an uninspiring public speaker. Belittled as an idiot. Blamed for dividing the nation. Charged with incompetence in his administration. Accused of trampling on the Constitution. Engaged in censorship and manipulation of the press. Mockingly compared with lower primates. Pressured for a key Cabinet Advisor's resignation."<a class="user" href="http://digg.com/political_opinion/Bad_press_for_the_President">http://digg.com/political_opinion/Bad_press_for_the_President</a>

That would have to be Jimmy Carter when he had interest rates above 11 % and allowed Castro to open all his prisons and send them to the United States, Now Miami is worse than a 3rd world Country

So... From another point of view, such things happen not too often.
