The funny thing is I'm an Asian-American who embraced Western culture until I started studying Japanese, and now native Japanese speakers and other foreigners usually mistake me for just another Japanese citizen and expect me to speak fluently without any issues at all whatsoever... so in that case, you would be pretty much on the opposite side of the spectrum :)
95%+ of Japanese ads are 15 second spots. 30 seconds spots are still a rarity and 1 minute spots are virtually non-existent (except for the low rating cable channels).Short spots are spiced up with heavy jingles, celebrity endorsement, noise and a healthy dose of good old Japanese wtf.
