thinkprogress.org — McCain?s statement defending the efficacy of DADT comes in the wake of news that the military is about to discharge mission-critical specialist Dan Choi ? a gay Arabic speaker ?- simply for being openly gay.

Don't any of you remember? It was Clinton that enacted the DADT policy, because as a Commander-In-Chief he was too weak to tell the Joint Chiefs otherwise. But no, we all want to go bats**t over McCain in our little liberal Republican-bashing orgy rather than pull your heads out and realize who caused this problem.Yeah, Obama will fix it - by begging Congress. Some leadership. How about Obama starts barking out like he's got a pair and FIX IT.You know, I'm Conservative, and I'm not worried about gays in the Military. They should be (and are) willing to risk their lives in the services of our country like anyone else. But it's outrageous that even when Democrats get in office, they don't have the courage to actually do anything about it - and yet they get credit for being all warm and fuzzy for their "tolerance".

You're missing the point. Homosexuality has been granted various levels of permissibility (see "Queen for a Day") depending upon the needs of the military at the time. And it's a Military Regulation that the issue. What Congress did was pass a law to require the Military Regulations to adhere to the DADT rule. Obama, as CIC, can require changes to Military Regulations. But he doesn't have the political courage to do that, thus he's deferring to Congress, like Clinton did.

Why would you have a problem if a gay guy took a massive dump in the men's bathroom?

One I didn't digg you down. Two what I want is America to start acting like the land of the free and home of liberty. We can't expect other less developed countries to give up their treatment of minorities when we still treat certain people as second class citizens. You say we can't do it now, I say it has to be done now. We have to lead by example if we truly want democracy and freedom to spread throughout the world. All the great breakthroughs in civil rights came quickly when people weren't "ready". The south was not ready for slavery to end, America wasn't supposedly ready for women or African Americans to vote, or for segregation to end. It took heroes on the Supreme Court and in the White House to make it happen, that is what I expect of Obama. Take the lead to end this bigotry.

@ mship"The man cant just get into office and flip a switch and change every policy. That would be political chaos, but I wouldn't expect any kind of logic from someone who has a hatred for Obama for whatever reason you have it."LOL I don't have a hatered for Obama. I actually like the guy until he went into office. I just disagree with a lot of his policies and plans. And he did go into office and just "flip a switch" to plan on putting us in bigger debt with the Fed more than what the bush administration did in 8 years....all within the first 100 days. That's why I made that comment earlier.
