Erm, I agree with your major premise, but that's factually wrong. African-Americans made up a majority of the population in the south, and a large portion in the north. that's why southern plantation owners were so afraid of letting blacks get together, they could easily have taken over the south.

The point in question also according to your comment is, "what is a church?" When Christ and his apostles were on earth during his ministry, did Christ once ever mention a name or a structure as his church, after all, he set the example of all worshippers to follower, did he not? In fact Christ himself never had a church, he was the church (so to speak) and his apostles were his congregation until it began to grow. The problem with the ideaologies of the church today was religion and politics were allow to infiltrate each other during the reign of Constantine in the 3rd century which brought out more different concepts of religion even when the Bible quoted unmistakeably that there is only one faith, one God, one baptism. Today, people are more educated, so are able to see the hypocracy and discrepancies of organized religion more than any time in history, but today's lifestyles also blind the masses of what the true religion is, because it does follow patterns of strict divine standards. Standards that have been lost within the grasps of immorality, materialism and selfish independence from our creator. Why do you think there are wars that are prevelant throughout this planet, why sexual permissiveness has gone rampant and why homosexuality has become more acceptable. Religion has feed the masses to the point that man has lost all concepts of what is right or wrong in the eyes of the true God. Dipsomanic, you must realized the chapter of Leviticus and most of the old testament, even though there many guidlines for people of the present, the laws in question were for the Nation of Israel only because the Jews sworn to upheold a covenant with God to be recognized as his "chosen people." Only when they violated the terms of that covenant in 567 BCE and finally permanetly in 70 CE did Gentiles have the rights to approach the true God as his chosen ones. That's why Christ spoke of only 2 commandments that were required of future generations in his new covenant arrangment that coincided with his death. The trouble is, we today have severely violated that new covenant also.
