I really think this nation has gone beyond the point of no return. There is a liberal America and a conservative America. There is a white America and then there's the rest of us who are comfortable and happy being surrounded by religions and ethnicities and races that are different than our own. We can't even agree to disagree anymore. We can't build consensus. No one is willing to compromise. The divide in this nation is as deep as it's ever been.If McCain is elected, there will be millions of Americans who will feel so dejected and hopeless that they will strongly consider moving away from this nation because of it's painful imperfections (racism, disproportionate wealth). If Obama wins, I'm worried about a huge increase in hate crimes by white people, i.e., riots, assassination attempts, police brutality by white cops. As an Obama supporter, it's hard for me to feel optimistic for the reasons mentioned previously. Not because I don't think Senator Obama will get elected--I think he will--but because of the resistance and violence I anticipate. I hope I'm wrong. I'm white My immediate family is ALL about Obama, but different branches of my family definitely have not let go of their racist beliefs. To some degree it's geographical, but not entirely. The things they say disgust and discourage me. I see the "brother fighting brother" thing happening all over again like it did in the 1800s. Am I alone in worrying about such things?
@offrdbandit: the only mistake I made was misspelling feed as fee. Unions are the reason we have monitoring of work environments for safety etc. If you don't realise those are socialist at root, you're really a confused person:You ask "socialism anyone?" as if it's all bad, but then you support regulation and "safeguards against exploitation". Socialism at its finest would be a safeguard to the next level: you support the system in any way, and you are in return supported as you need to be. There needs be no provision for lazy people, but this is the major issue for people like you; you see all people who are desperate as lazy.
Don't underestimate the ignorant bigot vote. Reach out and try to educate. Then vote, and get as many informed voters as you can to do the same. Pester people. Volunteer. Don't let these people make the decision!
Millions of McCain/Palin supporters and they find 5 or 6 who will say something stupid. Betcha if I go through an Obama/Biden rally with a microphone I can find a lot more who will say something stupid.
I'm sorry, I know this comment is going to come off as hypocritical and counter productive to the anti-hate argument at hand, but it has to be made. People like amightywind and these willfully ignorant and hateful McCain/Palin supporters are the ones that need to go. If we're going to yell at rallies about killing people then please, for the sake of humanity, lets start with the ignorant. Yep, I said it.If you're going to be intolerant of a people than make it ignorant people. It's a good thing that I'm not running for the position of Leader of the Free World because I am exactly what these people are afraid of; someone who would take every possible measure to ensure that natural selection took it's course. The difference between me and these unevolved sap is that I understand that someone "better" than me, not someone just like me or just as stupid as me, should be a world leader.
