news.yahoo.com — Fisher said he strongly endorsed the Democratic ticket, and would donate a portion of royalties he receives from the Republicans' airing of "Barracuda" to the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama. "With my contribution to Obama's campaign, the Republicans are now supporting Obama," he said.

I understand that this is Digg where people draw outlandish conclusions just to get a thumbs up, but everyone should pause and think about this story for a minute. The guy pretty much says he'll donate some of the money he's receiving from McCain's camp directly to the Obama campaign. How hard is it to understand that simple statement?

FTA:Fisher also went on to say, "this extra money should also help me get my power turned back on, and maybe I'll actually land work for the first time in 20 years."

Your argument is a logical fallacy called Reductio ad absurdum. It means that you stretch the logic of the premise (found in the article) to the point where it is absurd, then turn around and claim that your absurd exaggeration disproves the premise. Fail. Here is a nifty guide to logic that might help you be a better commenter.http://theskepticsguide.org/logicalfallacies.asp

They didn't get the bands permission to use the song, so the violated the bands rights. How is this unclear?

Bands give up their rights to the usage of their songs when they sign the contract. The copyright holders have the usage rights and issues licenses to those that wish to use them for commercial (or in this case political) gain. Many bands, after the terms of their initial contract are fulfilled, start their own publishing companies to control how their songs are used. That and to make the money the recording companies would have made for themselves. In this case, Heart or any member of the band would have to have the copyright to the song to have a say as to how it's used. Since they don't, they don't.Don't think for a second that there weren't teams of lawyers hammering out legal contracts so that they could use this or any song.

Heart did not even control the copy write for their song? Wow. Screw them. Thats just dumb on their part. That is if you're right, I mean. I hope that, if you're correct, then I sure do hope that Fisher gives back all the money that the Republicans gave him for the use of the song, plus all of the money the Republicans gave to him that he gave right to Obama. I mean, that's WHAT the article is about. So they better let the GOP know that the GOP gave the wrong people all that money. Cuz, if what you say is true, and Heart does not control the rights to their own work, then the Republicans gave royalty money to the wrong people. Ha ha. How silly of them.Oh second thought, the idea that Heart does not control the right to their own work may be incorrect. Oh whatever. Republicans Rule! Yeah! Obama/McCain 08!
