military.com — Was he tortured for 5 years? No. He was subjected to torture and maltreatment during his first 2 years. John was badly injured when he was shot down, not from torture. Both arms were broken and he had other wounds from his ejection. He was one hero among many - not uniquely so as his campaigns would have people believe.

Truly irresponsible, inflammatory, puerile, Title and Description of a thoughtfully written article from a man who has known McCain for years. I think it's stupid when wingnuts do that, and I think it's stupid when anyone does it.Really pissses me off, so I'm going to cross-digg it from another source..

The title is disgusting and misleading. The article is important. I'm in a quandry. I don't want to Digg this, because I'm not interested in saying John McCain lied about the torture, and that's not what I read the article to be saying. The article is thoughtful, measured, careful, and separates the question of suffering in VietNam from the qualities needed to be President.Someone change the damned title.

Seriously- this is an important article that articulates why being a POW doesn't automatically qualify McCain for the presidency. It also shows how McCain has used his story to eclipse the sacrifices and heroism of other prisoners in Vietnam. It has very little to do with McCain lying about torture. That's an insignificant detail of the story. Change the title. Here are my suggestions:"McCain fails to honor POW sacrifices""Fellow POW doesn't trust McCain"or"McCain can't earn fellow POW's trust"Is there a better titled post we can digg?

After all that, how could McCain flip flop on torture? Why now does he not vote against torture? Disgusting

Hate the title but am glad the subject is finding some air time.. The author of the original article really got slammed on military.com and could use some more supportive comments. Then again..reading the comments on those response ages shows us we have a very seriously sad community of people.Digg the idea of the article..really dislike the title though.
