thinkprogress.org — McCAIN: The fact is we had four years of failed policy. We were losing. We were losing the war in Iraq. The consequences of failure and defeat of the United States of America in the first major conflict since 9/11 would have had devastating impacts throughout the region and the world.

I'd hardly call the operations in Afghanistan "major". We sent in only a fraction of the troops we sent to Iraq. It was a decent-sized battle operation, but it wasn't major. Hell by your assessment, Somalia, Panama, and Grenada were major too. If it had been a "major" operation, Afghanistan wouldn't be in the same shape today that it was prior to the invasion. Opium production at an all-time high, Taliban influence doing nicely, it's almost as if we never stepped foot in the country to begin with.Hit 100,000 troops and then we'll talk.

Afghanistan certainly SHOULD have been major. After all, that's where the people who attacked us on 9/11 were. Excuse me - where the people who attacked us on 9/11 STILL ARE, because we pulled our guys OUT and sent them to Iraq, which wasn't involved in 9/11. . . .

Well you can't blame him. He was taking his nap during the Afghan War.
