thinkprogress.org — During a blogger call yesterday, John McCain was asked about efforts by Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr to oppose the new U.S. Baghdad security plan. According to two reports of the call, McCain repeated his prediction that Sadr wouldn?t end up opposing U.S. forces, but admitted he may be "digging for the pony."

While I don't agree with everything the McCain says, at least he is honest and consistent. He would gain more votes by not being so vocal in his support for the war, but he calls it like he sees it.

What are you, some kind of anti-reality robot? The man goes to Baghdad in body armor, escorted by 100 troops, to a market that was sealed off and locked down specifically for his photo-op... he says "look everybody, I've proven Baghdad is safe!"... and you think "he calls it like he sees it"?? Maybe so, if he has cataracts the size of Texas. He was a genuine war hero at one point. Now he's endangering soldiers' lives in service of a photo-op, staged in service of a lie that the 30% lunatic-constituency of this country still believes in -- lunatics who happen to comprise the majority of republican primary voters. "Honest and consistent" my ass! McCain's Pander-mania Express is just about the most transparent, shameless, bald-faced political calculation I can imagine.
