@ Blakovitch (the submitter)f**k YOU. Do you think the mayor of boston is the one personally overseeing this? Get a f**king clue and take your bulls**t sensationalist headlines somewhere else.Read the update, this is software based.Yes I am from Boston.
This could be very dangerous if other municipalities take a similar approach to the internet. Basically when the city offers the internet for free in the city all of the corporations offering unfiltered internet will have to leave. You can't compete with free (taxpayer subsidized) internet. The city will then be free to censor the internet and with no alternatives your only choice will be to accept it.
"Are we going to have an article everytime their content filter makes a mistake?"No. We're going to have an article every time publicly funded, government-run Internet access is using any kind of web filtering to censor content. You're missing the point.
I live and work in Boston and work in the computer industry, and I am constantly hunting for free wi-fi spots. I agree with you, this is not free wi-fi for the public, but for city workers. Do a search for Boston free wi-fi and all you'll get is a listing of a few restaurants, hotels and library's. Everyone is arguing over nothing...
