boston.com — Gov. Patrick said he is looking at a Hummer tax -- adding higher registration fees for gas-guzzling cars and offering discounts for those that do less harm to the environment. This would be the first such fee in the nation on a state level. Environmentalists applauded the proposal, saying it would encourage people to buy more fuel-efficient cars.

STUUUPID. Great idea if you live in a city where they plow the streets, but if you live in the country or some place where you need to climb a hill, you get the benefit of paying more taxes. Yipee!I am so sick of city-base boobs making policies that F rural-living people. How about this, burn up all the oil, then we won't have this stupid debate anymore about fossil fuels. Let's face it, China is going to burn whatever we don't use. Let's just get it over with..

Lighten up Francis, the Jurassic Park bit was a joke, but apparently just a little too dry.

Ah, just in time for Hummer to go out of business! Wonder if there's a chart out there: steel in 1 Hummer = x Minis or the like....

The roads are the same, regardless of what is driving on them (with the exception of trucks and such). A Mustang or Camaro will wear the road just as a Prius or Hybrid anything will. What about the environment? The new car will have all the newest emissions provisions. As far as traffic, it would be the same regardless of the car.Basically what you are saying is that driving a car, any car, is "making society bear the cost" of my activities. Have fun riding your bike. It is not practical for me to bike to work. I spend a lot of time driving. My own comfort having fun while driving is more important to me than driving a boring car that is supposed to minimize the mythical global warming BS.

Your use of the word "should" frightens me. So we "should" let the government (which is run so efficiently already) tell us what choices we can make?

@aamer: I'm sorry for my misspelling I was worked up. I can assure you I know much more about the topic than you. Let me know if you want to learn something other than what you see on The Daily Show.
