Congrats to Marty, one of the greatest goalies to play the game. All the attention is being drawn away from Patrick Elias who, in the same game, became the all time points leader for the New Jersey Devils. Good job to both of them.
Brodeur has always been one of my favorites. I was a goalie for a local roller hockey team back in my early college days and looked up to ol' Marty a lot. Congrats to a very deserving man.
Who's talking about the Capitals? What are you smoking?Patrick Roy beat Marty Brodeur in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals - that's the biggest thing for me - and on top of that, Roy won 3 Conn Smythe trophies as playoff MVP.That's 3 Conn Smythe trophies out of 4 Stanley Cups. Brodeur is 0 for 3 - he's never won the Conn Smythe. He's a great goalie too, but he's not as great as Patrick Roy, the best goalie ever.

Not really impei - just look at this year. Scott Clemmenson, a minor league goalie, looked like a bonafide starter in Brodeurs place.

Shootout wins do not count toward a goalie's total NHL win record, they're counted separately.

Yeah, actually. The NHA, precursor to the NHL, had a 12 game season in 1910. The first NHL season in 1917 had 22 games. The current NHL season has 82.
