firstshowing.net — Mark Cuban, a name you should be familiar with in the movie industry, is one of the two who started up the Landmark Theatres chain. Landmark is the biggest independent art house movie theater chain in the US, with locations in around 24 markets, and is really reshaping the independent and mainstream cinema world with Cuban's radical ideas.

Message to people sitting around me in the theater: get your feet off my chair and STFU. I know you think that other people think you're cool b/c you giggle at sixth-grade jokes that you and your friends make but in fact everyone in the theater just hates you.

"Mark Cuban, a name you should be familiar with in the movie industry"Are you kidding me? First everyone should know him as the outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavricks. Secondly, he is also outspoken on many tech, internet, and even social issues. I have never associated him with the movie industry.. ever.

Exactly! Things must change drastically before I'll ever step foot in another theater. Firstly, ushers that shut these kids up or remove them if they talk. Let it be known before the film that if your cell phone rings or you start yacking it up during the film, you will be removed and your money will not be refunded. I'm sick and tired of talking during films. If you aren't the director, I don't need your commentary. Next we need to have late showings that are 21+. This will weed out a lot of the brats who sit there making out or worse, sleeping (snoring) during the film. The last movie I saw in a theater a guy next to me fell asleep (after making out with his girl for 15 minutes) and was snoring until I jabbed him and asked him to stop. He got loud and was like "what? what? Oh man, really? aiight... ha.. yeah". It was not pleasant.Lastly, raise ticket prices for these later shows. Make the tickets $25 or more offer assigned seating for the premium price. This way, the idiots can't afford to get in and the rest of us don't have to show up an hour before showtime just to get a good seat. I think paying an extra $12 is worth an hour of my time. I just saw Wicked on Broadway last weekend and the place was sold out. Tickets were over $100 and hey, no one talked, no one made out during the show, no one's cell phone rang. They had ushers who were very strict and even gave out bottles of water to people who were coughing.Do this and I'm there in a heartbeat. Don't and I'll just wait for it to come out on DVD. I think I can wait until the fall to watch Spider-Man 3 anyways.

I would hardly call this "a new idea". The Magnolia in Dallas, TX., part of Landmark Theaters, has a full bar and lounging area that, once you purchase your drinks, you can hang out and listen to music and have conversations while waiting for the movie or friends as well as take the drinks into the movie theater with you. In addition, the theater focuses on independent artist oriented films. This concept has been around for roughly 4 years when Landmark took over operations. This also holds true for The Inwood Theater, another Landmark Theater property located in Dallas, TX.Mr. Cuban is a co-owner of Landmark Theaters but not a founder and did not "start up" Landmark Theaters. From the Landmark Theater website, "After the company's purchase by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban in 2003..."Mr. Billington, the author of the story for Variey Magazine, needs to do more research for his articles. Or at least figure out this new thing called the internet.

Speaking of Philadelphia, sometimes they show movies at the Trocedero that are 21+ because you can purchase alcohol at the events. *coughs*

I'd rather he deal with an industry that rips you off on concession fees, shows you commercials (In the case of Loews they show preview/commercial/preview, etc. whereas most show commercials first then previews) then makes you wait until they suck out the last dollar out of the public before offering it to the home audience.

I actually have met Cuban (while he was filming his reality show at the Ghost Bar in Vegas). It was only an evening but he came over to our table, bought our group a round of drinks and was pretty cool to hang out with. Far from a douce bag. :)
