portfolio.com — Much like Friedrich Nietzsche, who scandalized 19th-century Europe by declaring that "God is dead," Mark Cuban has some bad news for all the true believers who are investing billions in the Web. The internet is "dead and boring," Cuban says in an interview with Portfolio.com. "We have reached the point of diminishing returns with today's internet.

True. I find the net so boring these days. Sometime back it was fun to see new stuff popping up almost each day, promises of new tech, new GPL software, linux, google stuff. Right now we are left to be consumers of recycled concepts ... the floppy is dead and usb pen drives replaced them... that sums 20 years of tech evolution. Boring.

The internet must be dead because the tubes are filled.

I guarantee 90% of the people trashing cuban didn't RTFA and are just going from his "past". he is spot on for his comment. I would take it further, I think that content is boring on the internet now. My internet connection gives me two things I need. communication and research. the rest is starting to look like good ol' TV to me, and I haven't had cable for years.

L.G.: What gets you out of bed in the morning, and what makes you enthused?M.C.: All of it. I love challenges. I love challenging conventional wisdom. I love the satisfaction of being right and the motivation of being wrong. If that Ain't a billionaire talking, then I don't know what is.

His quote is being sensationalized out of context. He called the internet dead, comparing it to electricity, which is a boring utility that is merely expected to be there and work at the normal level. We don't get new and exciting ways to use household electricity anymore. And, according to him, we don't get new and exciting uses of the internet anymore either. There's certainly room to disagree, but I'm inclined to concur.

You appear to have completely misunderstood me... and as to your second point, your success at capitalism does not determine your worth as an individual.

The internet is "dead and boring", adds everywhere, pop-ups, spy-ware, the only people it's not dead for are hackers & spammers. This limitless void of the internet just gets boring and limiting. People end up writing things like this, because they are so bored. You have to answer questions like "Are you human" to submit this comment.
