hightimes.com — With a deficit that only gets bigger and bigger by the day that President Bush is in office, and clearly the war on drugs is a faliure! Why after the government's report that came out and listed the three most addictive drugs alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine, all big money makers, and all legal. How is it not now a time for a change in this country?

While I agree that it's costing taxpayers huge amounts of money, saying that since marijuana busts account for 5.5% of all arrests, and since the government spends $193 billion annually on the its criminal justice system, that therefore marijuana arrests account for $10.7 billion is ridiculously flawed and irresponsible. You can't assume that all crimes cost the same amount to process, go through court, incarcerate, etc.If people are going to take this argument seriously, the people who are pushing this agenda are going to have to be more responsible or we're going to be stuck in the sorry state our country is in right now.

Perhaps, if we all band together, we can petition the government to make an exception to the murder laws in your case...

Did you read the article? 42 billion dollars wasn't spent on fighting marijuana. That number is made up. They allot 31.1 billion dollars for a potential gain in taxes.

that 42 billion dollars is made up. they used some statistic that about 5 percent of people are arrested for pot and then took 5 percent of the overall criminal justice spending and said ok about 10 billion dollars is spent because of pot being illegal. This is nonsense. No way in hell is the system for booking a some for pot the same as say someone who committed a felony. These numbers are bogus.Plus the article made up some number of how much they think we would gain if pot were taxed. It's a made up number that has no validity. This article is pure bulls**t.Don't believe everything you read. Especially from the high times for crying out loud.Pot is worse then cigarettes actually. Do some research and you'll see why.
