Don't bother with mandriva unless you're a total learner or one who isn't ready to learn about linux or post on a forum a dozen times to figure out how the operating system works. It's just another RPM-hell distro with a nice face. If you really need a beginner distro, use Ubuntu. And NEVER pay for any distribution of linux. Closed source apps are available to everyone the same as the open source ones; the only obvious difference is you can't modify the code and redistribute it. I guarentee the flash plugin and java runtime are available in most of not all the trees for each distro's package manager. With Arch linux getting those things is as easy as "pacman -Sy flashplugin jre"
i upgraded the parents from mandrake 10.1 to mandriva 2006 today and it definitely seems faster on this ancient hardware. nothing spectacular but a nice improvement.

Just upgrade my server from 10.1 to 2006 and like nouse66, have to agree the box just feels faster. Good show Mandrake!
