youtube.com — Marshall Hayes said he got a camera since locks and burglar bars don't seem to be enough to keep his home safe. The security system senses motions, which when detected leads to an e-mail that is sent to Hayes... As the cameras were on, Hayes spotted the thief digging in his home while at work from his web camera.

Now is this before or after you finish cowering under your bed until they leave?Sorry people who talk like that just fail to impress me, its almost inevitable that the words were uttered by somebody with no actual power and an ass load of fear. And that is assuming you have something worth stealing.

resplence:If your house is broken into you can usually expect a second visit shortly after. The thieves know that in a week or two you'll be able to replace the stolen items if you have insurance coverage. That's when it can pay off to have a webcam handy, or a baseball bat and some blackout window shades so he doesn't know you're home :)

Why did the homeowner have a camera that was aimed at mirrors relecting the bed?I can hear it now..."groan, moan, oh yeah, mmmm, yes .... you're not recording this are you?""oh no, never"..

@resplence"How come this guy is robbed on a regular basis? Is his home in the yard of a prison or something."Sadly much of Dallas looks like a prison yard to me. I used to live all around the Dallas metroplex and that area near White Rock Lake can be pretty bad. Too many of those Screwed n Chopped fans cruising around there. I hate to profile but c'mon.

A lot of you folks are underestimating the impact that a dog can have on common robbery. You're looking at it from a perspective that sees dogs in a rational light, as gracious and loving pets and slobbery-but-effective alarm systems. The fact is that in many low-income, proverty-stricken neighborhoods, the dogs that -are- around are either untrained or, conversly, are purposefully (or through neglect) trained to be...less than friendly to strangers. In many poor urban areas, whole packs of feral dogs roam the streets, living - and acting - accordingly.I lived in Savannah for a good while, where both crime and feral dogs are a constant. To make a long story short, and to sum up -countless- experiences during my time there: many, MANY people are scared absolutely s**tless of even the smallest dogs. People who grow up in poverty and live in high-crime areas have two main conduits for information about dogs: the dangerous, often sickly mongrels that they see in the streets, and police-trained German Shepherds. The rub is this: whether someone who Diggs would be scared of a dog is beside the point. People with high-speed internet connections and an interest in technology are, more than likely, dog-friendly. Most of you probably don't have freinds who've been bitten by a wild dog outside their house, or who've been chased through the streets by a trained Shepherd. Yes, there are plenty of rational ways to defeat a dog, with or without hurting it. But dogs are effective precisely because they play on irrational, deeply-engrained fears. They're still one of the best crime deterrents available, period. Ask any police officer.

The cops caught the burglar on 11-29-06 !! AND, i was able to get back some of my stuff. The burglar took some stuff to pawnshop, and luckily i had serial #s of my camcorder and digital camera, so they were able to track him down!
