epilepsyfoundation.org — A Michigan man with epilepsy, who, when experiencing a seizure, apparently was unjustifiably tasered, clubbed, arrested, jailed and committed to a psychiatric facility for violent offenders -- all based on non-threatening behaviors caused by a seizure.

I can not believe they are not trained for situations like this.

@zzzzbest...(I don't mean to be spamming the board by the way) It was an epileptic seizure and medication (or lack there of) was mentioned by the EMT. Initially, when I was told of this fellow's condition, I had assumed it was of the diabetic type. Either way my initial point was that I could not decipher what was wrong with this man by looking at him.

Ah! ""Formal Education""! I like how you put your own quotes around it. Usually that signifies a qualifier negating the generally-accepted meaning of a word or phrase. However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant that you went to college for a law enforcement course. That I have nothing to fear either from the police isn't the point. I obey the law too. The point you're clearly missing is that the police (especially [it seems] in the States) are morphing into Animal Farm dogs mentality and those who do not bow down are immediately suspect. Those who lose sight of the fact that the police are public employees accountable to the majority of the population as opposed semi-militaristic enforcers with unaccountable right to search and seizure will soon find that the slave has become the Master.I'm not mad at anyone. I just neither condone nor counsel immediate and unquestioned subjugation. That a problem for you?

I meant quotes in more in the Dr. Evil way i.e. "Laser Beam" Sorry if i just don't see law enforcement as an agent of oppression. The Cops where i have lived(Aurora, Largest city in Colorado) have been top notch scumbag busters professional and courteous.

So what happened to the cops? What happened to the institution that held him for 3 weeks? What were the repercussions for the guilty ones?

Pardon my french but :Here a link<a class="user" href="http://forums.officer.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-32105.html">http://forums.officer.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-32105.html</a>To a room where officers discuss about the DEATH of a deacon who got busted and tazered after epilectic seizure. This illustrates pretty well the topic on the "below average" level required to get hired in police forces.I believe we are about to experiment the very same problem here (fr), with tazers being ordered by government. I can't wait to see what solutions you guys will find, in order to protect yourself from your own police.Link to video of the murder :<a class="user" href="http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=-1964707186772642906&q=seizure+taser+deacon">http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=-1964707186772642906&q=seizure+taser+deacon</a>Note that nobody ever got in trouble after this. No sanctions nor prosecutions. At all.

Well, last week it was some student who was tasered because he forgot his library card, then arrested and then released and this week a guy has an epileptic seizure is tasered, clubbed, arrested, jailed and committed to a psychiatric facility for violent offenders. What is the motto here? Shoot first ask questions later?

whoa whoa whoa!, sorry but I think you all misunderstood what I was saying. I DO NOT THINK THAT THE COPS CONFUSED EPILEPSY WITH AGGRESIVE BEHAVIOUR. I'll go out on a limb and and say the cops beat the crap out of someone they didn't like. As to why they didn't like him is another debate that I don't want to speculate on. My quip about 'the mental faculties' was ironic. BUT! Don't simply assume that the victim is always a good guy, he could have been a paedo that the cops couldn't get to, it happens, then again, he may have simply been a victim.
