blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com — This headline looks like it came from The Onion, but it didn't. It's the real headline of an article posted on SeattlePI.com in the blogs section. The core of the story is that a man couldn't get his printer to work with Windows Vista, and ultimately, with the help of a Microsoft test manager, solved the problem warranting an article about it.

It wasn't even Microsoft's fault it had something to do with the way that the Dell installer was set up.

You can always disable those to save power.

IF THE CARD DOES NOT WORK, INSTALL THE F**KING DRIVER!

That was only in this instance with the poorly coded dell drivers. I had this problem with my Lexmark printer when I upgraded to Vista a year ago. I tried using the XP drivers to see if they would work, and they didn't. But I was able to uninstall the software & drivers. Once the Vista drivers were released, a month later, they installed without a problem.

Yeah, that printer wouldn't have worked at all with a mac.

So sorry you find the truth offensive, m1zl3d. You might want to stay indoors for the rest of your life, cancel your tv, Internet, newspaper and magazine subscriptions. :)

I have really tried to like Windows Vista Ultimate, but in the end, I just fee like Microsoft financially raped me. No, Vista does not crash as XP did from time to time, but it does lock up quite frequently. The worst thing is, I don't ever see the error report being sent of to Microsoft, which is worrying, because how can they address issues that never get reported to them.Lately, I have been toying with Ubuntu. Yes, Ubuntu has some major issues of it's own, however it's graphics and user interface put's any of Microsoft's products to shame. While Ubuntu has it's share of problems, and certainly a lengthy learning curve, it's free. Problems do get fixed in Ubuntu, and I must say far more rapidly than with Microsoft's products. While the hardware support with Ubuntu is not as vast as with Vista, the fact that it is free, looks beyond amazing, and runs like a banchee even on a very old and slow system leads me to conclude that unless Microsoft does something to mend the rift they created with Vista, like giving a discount to all of us that were mislead into spending hundreds of dollars on it, Microsoft's reign is over. It's the way business ought to be. Innovate, or go out of business, or get out of the way. I highly recommend Ubuntu. It's on par with Windows, and yeah, has it's problems, but it's free.

And that's a part I don't understand. It's so popular nowadays to critisize Vista and Microsoft in general... I understand that software has its bugs and it requires you to think, but you have to agree that it still delivers. Everybody can come up and say - well that feature is not working right and I could've done it better. But what stops you from doing that? What stops your "so creative and inventive" mind from writing your own OS? Nothing.. Well if it is so - why complain? Nobody forces people to use Vista, and you're more than free to wipe out the hard drive and install whatever you want... My answer to that - if you don't like it - don't use it. If you're into writing another angry message about how vista sucks badly - well you gotta rethink your life, and maybe you just have too much free time on your hands. As for that particular problem. The issue was on the user/third party side and has absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft. If you're stupid enough not to notice "XP drivers only" on the cover of your CD, skip the warning message while installing - well I don't think there is a lot Microsoft can do about it. We're only human.Good luck
