paulgraham.com — One reason programmers dislike meetings so much is that they're on a different type of schedule from other people. Meetings cost them more. The manager's schedule is for bosses. But on the maker's schedule, meetings are a disaster. A single meeting can blow a whole afternoon, by breaking it into two pieces each too small to do anything hard in.

I have always felt this way about my job as a programmer. It's hard to explain to Management the downfalls of meetings. I keep a list of all the items I have accomplished in a day and the days I do too many meetings my lists are abnormally small, yet I have been busy working all day long.My current Employer understands this and actually encourages leaving me alone until the end of the day. This essay should be a required read for all managers.

This is so true for me. I live in the makers schedule and usually go to the office in the afternoons. It's hard to make people understand why my schedule is such, this article may shed some light on some people as to why we have vampiric schedulesThis is a cool quote from the article: "having a meeting is like throwing an exception" Haha!
