I believe the benefit of this app is more for the owners of the RSS feeds, not the users/readers of the feeds. True, the app store will be flooded with RSS apps now, but this will give the owners of these feeds an additional means of publicity. So for the users, yes it is simpler to use the RSS reader, but for all the RSS feed owners it is more beneficial to create an app because of the marketing potential. Cool idea, regardless.
That is a lame study. Animals given Splenda would likely eat more as the caloric content is much lower when Splenda is used as a previous poster mentioned. I lost 150 pounds over the past 2 years and eat tons of Splenda, without it this journey would likely have been much harder and duller. As for the 'use sugar' advocates, if you can't see our over indulgence of sugar and HFCS as one of the major causes of 'Western Obesity Epidemic' then you should look again. Most people who follow a diet where they remove sugar lose weight without doing anything else, that also held true for me, when I exchanged sugar for Splenda.
I think that this makes for a nice marketing tool when visiting conferences or trade shows. Push your company news feed through that and if someone's interested, hook them up with your app.

This should be pretty handy and maybe it will improve upon Google reader's functionality.http://androidelectronics.com
