His original problem was that he forgot to water his plants one day, and they dried out. With this system in place, if he forgets to water his plants one day, they will dry out. So no, he didn't solve his original problem. "Your" missing the point.
i guess i like the fact that someone is looking to find a use for plastic bottles... I know the ultimate would be to not use them at all! but right now that aint the case... In AZ, you need to water your plants 1+ times during the day sometimes, so this would actually work quite well for patio tomatoes, herbs, etc. I'm gonna try it out!

Reusing plastic bottle is really great. And for irrigation purpose is really interesting method. In ancient Egypt people use clay vessel for this purpose. <a class="user" href="http://www.irrigationdirect.com">http://www.irrigationdirect.com</a>
