billboard.com — Regardless of genre, retail sales or radio play, each of the 20 acts on Billboard's Moneymakers list toured in 2008. Madonna tops the list with $242,176,466 in earnings, followed by Bon Jovi, Bruce Springstein, The Police, and Celine Dion. In a year when recorded-music sales declined yet again, many earned more at the box office than ever before.

I'd be happy to give her more money if she'd promise to keep her clothes on. Nobody wants to see grandma naked.

I liked most of her records since Ray Of Light. I have not listened to the last one, but "Confessions on a Dance Floor" is pretty good.

Thousands of bands are giving away their music for free at myspace and I can tell you right now, only a handful of them are actually making enough money to do it for a living; and even then they are probably just barely scraping by. The RIAA is essential as they put millions into promoting your band and getting your name out there.

Personally, I'm inclined to agree with you; however, the Madonna example only furthers the RIAA's case by illustrating the value and benefits of their promotion. Without which, Madonna would most likely not be at the top of Music Money Maker's List.
