in fact linux need a driver it's just that they are actually compiled with the kernel so every update of kernel may include new hardware driver. in other word, everytime there is a new distro there may have more hardware support out of the box. this said, that explain why after installing fedora...i didn't had anything to configure. Actually my cdrom driver is f**ked up for recording but i'm too lazy to correct it. but seriously hardware support is excelenet on linux. if it don't work after install you are probably not lucky...and your hardware isn't supported or isn't supported anymore if it's really old hardware.
Yes, actually I just got through installing Ubuntu on a mac mini and the wireless card worked without any sort of configuration. You sir, are retarded. Most likely you installed a more advanced flavor of linux like Debian or Mandriva (Mandrivas hardware support sucks)
It's my understanding that Linux has become primarily used on hollywood -render farms-, for animated films.I haven't heard of it being used for any live action movies. (Except maybe being used on screen in space/sci-fi/badass hacker films.)
Not even joking... Flash crashed halfway through watching that... on Ubuntu 7.10.Macromedia needs to get off their high horse and release some decent 64-bit Flash already so I can watch horribly unfunny parodies and youtube videos dammit.
